ROUGH WATER HANDLING sessions for sea kayakers
23rd to 25th September
30th & 31st March 2018
This is a weekend to training your sea kayaking skills in rough water with top coaches that have many years experience. The September 2017 course will be run by Howard Jeffs in Anglesey and the March 2018 will be run by Nigel Robinson & Martin Leonard in the Pembrokeshire coast.
The rough water handling course is for paddlers that feel comfortable in calm waters but would like to increase their confidence and skills in more dynamic conditions. The course will involve progression from calm through to rough water environments. The skills you will gain will be useful also in waves, tide races and rough seas. Depending on the group and sea/weather conditions, we will be working on some of the following skills:
- Paddling in wind & waves
- Paddling in tide races
- Rolling your sea kayak in rough water
- Rock hopping
- Assisted and self-rescues in rough water
- Towing in rough water
- Paddling as part of a group
- Opportunities to lead if you are practising for the leadership award
- Practising CLAP principles
- Sea trip & day planning
The course runs over two or three days through which our coaches will work with the group in different and progressively challenging environments. This is the perfect opportunity to increase your rough water skills and confidence in a supervised and safe manner.
